COMPTROLLER RYLANDER GRANTS TAX RELIEF
TO BUSINESSES AFFECTED BY NEW YORK TRAGEDY
(AUSTIN)-Texas Comptroller Carole Keeton Rylander
today announced that businesses affected by Tuesday's terrorist attack
on the World Trade Center in New York City may postpone paying taxes owed
to Texas.
Businesses will, upon request, be granted an extension of
up to 90-days to file tax returns due in September and October.
Approximately 3,361 businesses located in Manhattan conduct
business in Texas and report sales tax and other taxes to the state. It
is unknown how many of those companies are affected by the destruction
of the World Trade Center towers and damage to nearby office buildings.
"I want to do everything I can to help the folks who
are affected by this unimaginable tragedy," Comptroller Rylander
said. "Businesses whose operations have been disrupted - if not obliterated
- by the disaster need to concentrate on their recovery. They don't need
to worry about filing tax returns right now."
For more information, or to request a tax filing extension,
