CONNECTICUT TO OFFER TAX AMNESTY
The Governor of Connecticut, earlier this month, signed
a bill that, among other matters, approved the establishment of a tax
amnesty program.
Joining an array of states such as Louisiana, Michigan, Maryland, and
Nevada, which have conducted successful amnesty programs in recent months,
on July 1, 2002, a bill was passed to establish a tax amnesty program
in Connecticut.
From September 2002 through November 2002, a Taxpayer owing any taxes
for any period ending before April 1, 2002, who has failed to file a return,
has underreported tax due, or has had interest or penalty imposed upon
examination by the Department of Revenue Services, may apply for amnesty.
Taxes imposed on motor carriers who have been issued a motor fuel tax
license are not covered under the program.
Qualifying Taxpayers will not be subject to civil penalties or criminal
prosecution. Any interest owed will be set at a fixed rate.
